Renegade Pre Cask New Bacolet Rum ABV 50% 70cl

The Renegade rum distillery: a modern marvel precisely designed to exalt the individuality of the terroirs, the purity of prolonged fermentation, and a thoughtful and rigorous distillation.

New Bacolet terroir: More rugged than the neighboring Vieux Bacolet, the natural amphitheater of New Bacolet is a south-facing basin with steep slopes and sunburnt, with drought-sensitive canes on the weathered upper slopes and growing lush on the rich and deep colluvial soils below – a classic exploration of the terroir. For this rum, we have harvested the variety rich in sucrose which we call “Lacalome Red” in the field of the “hill with goats”, which is on the soil known as Haute Combe.

New Bacolet is landlocked and sheltered by a forest to the north, and slopes down to the south. Being based along a mountainside, steeper than most of our operations, the excavation of the land was the most difficult. Four terroirs were identified on 21 hectares, and we planted the varieties Yellow Lady and Lacalome Red.

A south-facing, steep-sided, sun-baked bowl, the amphitheatre of New Bacolet is planted with drought-tolerant cane on the weathered upper slopes, whilst lush growth enjoys the deeper, rich colluvial soils below: a textbook exploration of terroir & more rugged than nearby Old Bacolet. For this rum we harvested the sucrose-rich variety we call Lacalome Red from the “Goat Hill” field, which stands on the terroir known as Upper Combe.
