The new and futuristic Macallan distillery, designed by the architectural firm Roger Stirk Harbour & Partners, was opened in June 2018 by its owners, the Edrington group. Built on the same site as the former distillery founded in 1824, it is equipped with 12 wash stills and 24 spirit stills, with a small capacity, produced by Forsyth in Rothes, Speyside. This cask strength version from the warehouses of independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail reveals an impressively high-quality, complex and fresh fruitiness from the start to the end of the tasting. Its intense exoticism and absolutely sumptuous array of colours, from bright red to ebony black and vermilion, are perfect illustrations.
